Why we love this

This coffee opens with the enticing aroma of honeysuckle blossoms. The first taste reveals layers of honeycomb sweetness intertwined with the delicate floral notes of hibiscus tea, creating an elegant balance on the palate. As you savor each sip, a vibrant blood orange acidity emerges, adding a sparkling brightness that lingers. The flavor complexity continues to evolve as it cools, with its natural sweetness blossoming and deepening.

It wasn’t until the early 2000’s that Rwandan coffee producers began to take agency over their coffee production, changing its bitter past into something more vibrant and offering hope.

Coffee has become a major economic driver for Rwanda. Farmers have pivoted from commercial production to high-quality specialty coffee, supported by government-funded programs. This shift has not only elevated the quality of Rwandan coffee but also improved the livelihoods and dignity of its producers. For Rwandans, coffee cultivation now represents the promise of a good life and offers a sense of community: people working collectively toward national advancement and producing a crop that inspires pride.

We are honored to share this fully washed coffee from the Shyira Washing Station in the Nyabihu district of Rwanda's Northern Province. Nestled in the foothills of the renowned Virunga National Park, a chain of volcanoes and home to the endangered mountain gorillas, Shyira stands as Rwanda's highest altitude washing station at 1,850 meters above sea level. The combination of temperate weather, high elevation, and volcanic soil creates an ideal microclimate for coffee cultivation, giving the coffee from this washing station a distinctive taste profile that sets it apart from other Rwandan coffees.
